Moving into a new home is an exciting time in your life, but it can be a bit overwhelming. Look at it this way, a home is like a blank canvas and you are the director with the vision. You can create anything you want, which can leave some with the big question- “where do I even begin?”
Don’t Stress, Here are a few helpful tips from our Artisan Christopher Wall:
1. You don’t have to commit to a color just yet! Take a deep breath & enjoy the process of falling in love with color. Pick up some samples that initially grab your attention, take them home & paint a small piece of your wall, then sit with them for a few days. Observe how the color looks at morning, noon, & night- color has a way of revealing its many shades throughout the day.
2. Don’t tackle everything at once! It’s okay to live with things unfinished for a while, in fact the more time you spend in your new home, the more solid your vision will become. Design ideas are meant to marinate on and lived with for some time.
3. Choose your design battles wisely, in the age of DIY it is highly encouraged that you make sure you have researched the project you are attempting. Often times with a new house, we don’t always know what to expect and some projects can turn out to be bigger or more complex than anticipated. Not to say you shouldn’t attempt house projects on your own, just don’t be afraid to ask a professional for help!
4. Don’t buy the whole store. As tempting as it might be, don’t overload with furniture in the beginning unless absolutely necessary! Furniture can be a personal thing and you might find that individual pieces will call out to you overtime. Plus if you buy everything at once, you leave no fun for shopping in the future.
